John Murray is an Operating Partner at Banneker Partners. He has developed, led, managed and advised on growth strategies for software companies and tech-enabled enterprises for over 20 years. For more than a decade he has specialized in partnering with middle-market private equity portfolio companies during the investment life cycle from initial due diligence, through team-building and development of growth plans, successful execution and exit. In each engagement he has helped management identify and complete transformation projects across the enterprise, driving revenue growth and reducing operating costs while improving customer satisfaction, and enhancing platform scalability.

Mr. Murray’s career began with a decade in investment banking at Credit Suisse and Stifel. Over the next decade he was a co-founder or senior operating executive of several Internet start-ups leading to the role of Chief Information Officer at AssetMark (NYSE:AMK), a back-office services partner for independent financial advisors. Since that time, he has held roles as an independent director, interim executive and advisor for multiple private equity portfolio companies. He was also lead director of CreditIQ through its 2021 sale to Cars.com (NYSE:CARS) and an independent director of BillTrust (NASDAQ:BTRS) through its take-private sale to EQT in 2022.

Mr. Murray has been a volunteer board member for several non-profit organizations and foundations, including serving as a Commissioner and President of the City of San Francisco Recreation and Park Department.

Mr. Murray has a B.S. from the Marshall School of Business of the University of Southern California and an MBA from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley.
