+ Stephen Davis, Managing Partner
Stephen Davis is the Managing Partner at Banneker Partners and has been an active investor in technology companies since 2000. Prior to Banneker, Mr. Davis co-founded Vista Equity Partners, was a Vice President at Credit Suisse First Boston and practiced mergers and acquisitions and securities law in New York with Debevoise & Plimpton and Kirkland & Ellis.
Mr. Davis has sat on the boards of numerous software companies including IQMS, Genesys, and Ancestry.com, and currently sits on the Board of Pepperjam and each of Banneker’s portfolio companies. Mr. Davis is also on the Board of Trustees of Carleton College, the Glide Foundation and the Board of Directors at the Center for Investigative Reporting in Berkeley, California.
Mr. Davis graduated from Carleton College and has a JD and MBA from Columbia University. He and his wife Jill Cowan have three children who attend school in the Bay Area.
+ Matthew McDonald, Partner
Matt McDonald is a Partner at Banneker Partners and has spent the past decade in technology operations and investing. Previously, Mr. McDonald was a Principal of Corporate Development at Square, Inc. Prior, he spent 8 years in software-focused Private Equity, including time as a Director at CVC Capital Partners, and approximately 7 years at Vista Equity Partners in a variety of investing and operating roles, including time spent as Director of Strategy at portfolio Company, Misys. Prior to joining Vista in 2008, he spent 2005-2008 as a Product Design Engineer at Apple. He holds seven patents.
Mr. McDonald holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from California Polytechnic State University and an M.S. in Engineering Management with Honors from Santa Clara University. He lives in Portland, OR with his wife and son, and shares time across both office locations.
+ Harjot Sachdeva, Operating Partner
Harjot Sachdeva is an Operating Partner at Banneker Partners. Harjot focuses on operational excellence to drive value. Previously, Mr. Sachdeva was an operations executive with K1 Investment Management, where he worked on improving performance of portfolio companies through close collaboration with their management teams. Before that, he served as the Chief Customer Officer at a HCM software company – Vibe Inc. Prior, Mr. Sachdeva worked at Vista Equity Partners, where he implemented best practices at portfolio companies including Relias Learning, Lanyon, Misys, Websense and ACTIVE Network. Mr. Sachdeva honed his software operations skills while working at JDA/i2 Technologies for 16 years.
Mr. Sachdeva holds a B.S. in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering from Delhi University, a M.S. in Industrial Engineering from University of Cincinnati, and an MBA from Kellogg at Northwestern University. He resides in Dallas with his wife and twins.
+ Darryl Lewis, Operating Partner
Darryl Lewis is an Operating Partner at Banneker Partners, focusing on driving operational excellence and value creation, with a specific focus on Product & Technology. Darryl was previously the CTO at STATS, a Vista Equity Partners portfolio company, and the Managing Director of Product & Technology for Vista Equity Partners, where he authored and implemented best practices for the entire portfolio of companies, including Mitratech, Lanyon, ACTIVE Network, Omnitracs, Tibco, and Websense.
Darryl started his career at AT&T Bell Laboratories as a software engineer, and spent the bulk of his career at Microsoft where he was a development lead on Excel and program management leader on Encarta, MSN, and the Xbox.
Darryl holds a B.S. in Computer Science with Honors from the University of Wisconsin.
+ Mark Shang, Chief Financial Officer
Mark Shang is the Chief Financial Officer at Banneker Partners and is responsible for the firm's finance, accounting, compliance and administrative activities.
Mark was previously the CFO at Serent Capital, a middle market private equity firm. He was a member of the founding team and spent over eight years there overseeing finance and administrative activities, as the fund grew from 3 to 33 people and raised two funds. Immediately prior to joining Banneker, Mark led the Venture and Private Equity Group on the West Coast for Boston Private, a leading provider of wealth management, private banking and trust services.
Mark started his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers. He was a Director in the Transaction Services Practice, leading due diligence engagements for private equity firms and strategic buyers. Prior to that he was a manager in the audit practice, focused on financial services.
Mark graduated from the University of Virginia and is a Chartered Financial Analyst and former CPA (inactive).
+ Terrance Bei, Vice President
Terrance Bei is a Vice President at Banneker Partners. At Banneker, Terrance focuses on evaluating investment opportunities and providing operational support to Banneker's portfolio companies. Previously, Terrance worked on investments in vertical software and tech-enabled services businesses at Serent Capital.
Prior to that he worked at McKinsey & Company serving global technology companies, healthcare organizations, and leading private equity firms across areas such as market due diligence, operations, growth strategy, and marketing & sales. Terrance holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Dartmouth College.
+ Kyle Hufford, Vice President
Kyle Hufford is a Vice President and Head of Business Development at Banneker Partners. Kyle focuses on developing investment themes and relationships with founders, CEO’s, and intermediaries to source investment opportunities for the fund. Kyle was previously a Director of Business Development at Serent Capital Partners, a private equity firm in San Francisco where he focused on sourcing investments in enterprise software and tech-enabled service companies.
Prior to Serent, Kyle was an investment banker at Dinan & Company and worked with a wide ranging variety of private equity and corporate clients to originate and evaluate proprietary acquisitions. Mr. Hufford has a B.S. in Business Management from the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University.
+ Joseph Oberholtzer, Associate
Joseph Oberholtzer is an Associate at Banneker Partners. Joseph focuses on investment analysis and execution, industry research and portfolio company support. Joseph was previously an Analyst at Vaquero Capital, an investment banking and advisory firm focused on the technology industry, where he was responsible for financial due diligence and transaction execution.
Prior to Vaquero, Joseph was a Consultant in the Corporate Finance & Restructuring practice at FTI Consulting. Joseph graduated from The University of Southern California, cum laude, with a B.A. in Economics and a minor in Corporate Finance.
+ Hugh Kirkpatrick, Associate
Hugh Kirkpatrick is an Associate at Banneker Partners. Hugh focuses on investment analysis and execution, industry research and portfolio company support. Prior to joining Banneker Partners, Hugh was an Associate at True Wind Capital where he worked on technology investments including the investment in Zix Corporation (NASDAQ: ZIXI).
During law school, Hugh was in the M&A practice at Debevoise & Plimpton and he worked on technology policy as part of the National Economic Council at the White House. He also co-founded Smartlens, a medical technology company that developed a contact lens to diagnose and treat glaucoma. Previously, Hugh was an Analyst in the Technology M&A group at Lazard Frères and an Associate in the Life Sciences practice at Charles River Associates.
Hugh graduated from Boston College, summa cum laude, with a B.S. in Management and he has a J.D. from Stanford Law School.
+ Amy Liang, Analyst
Amy Liang is an Analyst at Banneker Partners. Amy focuses on investment analysis and execution, industry research and portfolio company support. Amy was previously an Analyst at Rabobank, a Dutch investment bank, where she did venture capital advisory, equity private placements, and capital structuring advisory. Prior to Rabobank, Amy was an Associate Consultant at Appian Corporation, an enterprise software company.
Amy graduated from Dartmouth, Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude, with a B.A. in Biomedical Engineering and an honors thesis that involved developing a cancer detection device using tetrapolar impedances. She is part of the Harvard Business School 2+2 MBA program.
+ Kenneth Coleman, Advisor
Ken Coleman is a long term veteran of Silicon Valley. He is currently a Special Advisor to both Andreessen Horowitz Venture Capital Firm and Carrick Capital Partners Private Equity Firm. He is also an advisor at Pinterest as well as several other early stage technology companies.
Ken is Chairman of Saama Technologies, Inc., an advanced data and analytics company delivering actionable business insights to the Fortune 2000 in life sciences and other verticals. He started his career at Hewlett-Packard Company in various senior management roles. He then moved on to VP of Product Development at Activision; EVP of Global Sales, Services and Marketing for Silicon Graphics, Inc. (SGI). He was also founder, chairman, and CEO of ITM Software, acquired by BMC Software. Ken has developed a well-respected and deserved reputation for mentoring people in various stages of their careers and has been a passionate champion for diversity.
In addition to his role at Saama, Ken serves on the board of directors of CSAA Insurance Group, Entertainment Partners, Prevedere, EIS Group and Complia Health. He is a member of the Executive Leadership Council and the Dean's Advisory Council for the Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University. He has helped jumpstart many careers and is also the recipient of countless leadership and diversity awards and honors.
Ken earned both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from The Ohio State University. He also served as a captain in the United States Air Force.
+ Adrian van Schie, Advisor
Adrian van Schie is an advisor at Banneker Partners. Mr. van Schie was a partner at Kirkland & Ellis in New York focused on private equity transactions and a finance lawyer in the New Zealand firm of Buddle Findlay. Mr van Schie has an LLB (Hons) and BComm for the University of Otago in New Zealand and a Master of Law degree from the University of Chicago Law School.
Mr. van Schie sits on a number of for profit and charitable boards, including the University of Otago Alumni in America. Mr van Schie and his wife Alexandra Perce-van Schie live in New York City with their two sons.
